Sustainability
AMORIM cork is a natural product with a unique character. Harvested by stripping the bark of cork oaks, cork makes a valuable contribution to environmental protection across more than 2.1 million hectares around the western Mediterranean basin. Thanks to their natural properties, cork oak forests sequester up to 14.7 tonnes of CO2 per hectare of forest area annually and achieve a negative carbon footprint of up to -138 kilograms of CO2 per 1,000 cork stoppers by the time they leave the production site. In addition to reducing emissions, the forests also provide an important habitat for various native animal species and form the livelihood of more than 100,000 people in the region.
